“Book of Prayer” ft. Smoke Feathers - Hiatus

Enthralling producer Hiatus has teamed up with the silky-smooth, airy-voiced Smoke Feathers for the three-track Change Up EP. “Book of Prayer” is a bit straight-forward, with a few nicely-placed teardrop sounds that help make the track rather pretty. The better track, though is “Change Up” [link], which pairs a lovely soft piano with a toned-down tempo that benefit both artists quite well, creating an exceedingly pretty ballad. The EP is available to buy or stream on Bandcamp [link]

“Love Some1” - Holy Other

A new Holy Other track - give yourself some time to submerge yourself. It slowly surrounds and imprisons the listener in the most wonderful way - it’s smooth, emotive, and an absolute pleasure. His full-length debut, Held, will be released August 28th on Tri-Angle - a label that often dominates my listening habits.

“Oh Honey” - Headaches

Today, May 15th, marks the release of Headaches’ “Oh Honey”/”Genie” split on digital label NeuroPlastic Records, a short release packed to the brim with fun, choppy, looping weirdness. Take a listen to “Oh Honey” above, which has some chopped-and-screwed vocal samples that add an extra bit of zing. It’s fun, quick listen, available for free download on both Soundcloud [link] and Bandcamp [link] and accompanied by a seaside visual diary [link].

“Surely” - SBTRKT

Another producer we’re quite fond of has released a track in the last week, which has been absolutely filthy with the number of great tracks that have been released. Instrumental with a nice build and a quick, slick transition from coolly popping to fuzzy, slightly-more-subtle vibing, this track is even better when put on repeat. [link]

“Come True” - Balam Acab

Our love of Balam Acab is both tremendously overt (his Wander / Wonder was number 3 on our list of top albums of 2011) and completely justifiable (his music is incredible).  Well, the younger-than-me-but-far-more-talented Alec Koone posted mediafire links to two unreleased (and a little unpolished, but I can get down with that) tracks last week on his Twitter, “Just Stay” [link] and “Come True” [link], causing me to start sobbing because I was stuck at my day job, thus unable to listen. This occurrence is not infrequent.

The tracks were well worth sobbing over. They’re beautiful, dark, and watery (aqueous was already taken), as all great Balam Acab material is, with the latter track having an R&B bent and a throbbing beat that work especially nicely. Balam Acab has also been releasing a few remixes worth checking out, such as “Shorty Swing My Way.” [link]

“MPB” - Gold Panda

Gold Panda, who already has a few releases out this year, has released a new songand made it available for free on his website. There’s a bunch of stuff going on, a little pitter-patter, something that sounds like a xylophone glissando, and, of course, some slick, throbbing beats. [link]
