“Apocalypse Dreams” - Tame Impala
Tame Impala’s Lonerism isn’t even Kevin Parker’s first attempt to addle your grey matter in the year of 2012 (link), but we can start taking bets that new song “Apocalypse Dreams” is a sign of the overwhelming psychedelia-pop to come. Reportedly recorded mostly by Parker’s own ingenuity, Lonerism seems set to continue Innerspeaker’s love of streaked, kaleidoscopic skies and warped 60’s rock. “Apocalypse Dreams” blossoms somewhat typically, and Kevin Parker’s falsetto cascades over a blanket of scintillating cymbal crashes aids Tame Impala’s temperate in keeping cool moderation over the acid-wash embedded in the latter half of the track. Before too long, Parker’s past era-evoking pipes crash like waves against the sun-soaked synth, swirling together into an assiduous display of fireworks that fade just suddenly enough that you could swear the aural combustion leaves white streaks across your eyes. Download the track from Tame Impala directly (link), wait for lead single “Elephant” to be revealed later this month, and then anticipate the October release of Lonerism.
