“Breezeblocks” - ∆ (alt-J)
This was going to be a far more extensive post, but after the fourth paragraph, writing a separate review seemed more appropriate. alt-J can be called many thing; folk-step, art-rock, or, as a friend of mine so delicately chose, “fucking weird.” All that aside, they have crafted a refreshingly unique album with An Awesome Wave (streaming on Soundcloud [link]), an excellent album with a perplexingly great flow and consistancy despite the diversity and oddity of the content. “Breezeblocks,” the clear choice for a single and the easiest introduction to the band, has a video that is initially a tad disappointing, as we’ve seen this rewind tactic done time and again (“Little Motel” immediately comes to mind). It picks up near the end, though, with a an interspersing of great shots of the running faucet and the distraught man amidst the increasingly creepy scene refolding on-screen.
