Other News of Note

An Horse have release a video for “Airport Death,” a track off their massively enjoyable 2011 album Walls. I’d tell you about the laundry and paper airplanes, but that would be spoiling it. Whoops [link]. They’re also touring with Nada Surf and doing a few headline shows, which would make me happy because that Michigan venue is really cool - but I can’t go. Sing along for me. [link]

Django Django: great song (“Default”), great video (I’d rather not think about how painstaking that was too make). Their self-titled album comes out on January 30th. [link]

Rest in peace, Etta James. You are greatly missed.

After watching the new Justice video for “On’n’On,” I’m just wondering where the complimentary drugs are. This NSFW video couldn’t have been made for those with unaltered senses. Are we supposed to get them ourselves? What if we’re new in town and don’t have any connections yet? [link]

Overshadowed by the news of the At the Drive-In reunion, The Mars Volta have announced a new album; Noctourniquet is slated for a March 27th release date. [link]

The new Megafortress track “My Favorite Girl” and the corresponding video seem like they should be right in my wheelhouse, but I’m just not connecting. I want others to, though [link]. Be sure to heed his self-titled EP, out January 31st on Software (the same label that released Replica; seriously, I really want to love this). [link]

So, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the government had a beef with Megaupload, which led to Anonymous having a beef with the government. Personally, I think they should say “screw you” to the corrupt MPAA and all get in bed together. If you’re going to be corrupt, at least don’t piss off the internet. If you somehow really don’t know what’s up, just google the three bolded name. [link]

Miike Snow has released an excellent new song, “Paddling Out,” from Happy To You, due March 27th. [link]

As a big fan of The Mountain Goats, I enjoyed getting some more info on the upcoming album from this Rolling Stone piece (mainly for John Darnielle’s own comments, because how could anyone not love him). [link]

Nat Baldwin of Dirty Projectors has released a video for the song “Weights,” in which an odd couple has a very emotional misunderstanding. I could write TV episode summaries with sentences like that. [link]

I might just be a sucker for a message, but I love how the video for Perfume Genius’ “Hood” is shot [link]. Kudos to Mike Hadreas, whose comments on the video can be read on Pitchfork [link] and whose album Put Your Back N 2 It comes out on February 21/20 via Matador/Organs/Turnstile. [link]

Thrill Jockey will be releasing Malian singer-songwriter Sidi Touré’s Koïma on April 17th. “Tondi karaa can be heard now on Soundcloud, and shows off the new, more extroverted direction Touré has taken the music. [link]

The most nefarious plot ever hatched is played out in the new Unkown Mortal Orchestra video for “Thought Ballune.” I don’t quite understand how the airheads in this video don’t appreciate the gravity of the situation, but at least the music’s great. [link]
