“Hanging On” - Active Child

Active Child has released their second single from one of my favorite albums of 2011 and one of my absolute favorite songs of the last couple of years. The steady drumming and unrelentingly beautiful chords of the harp underline the atmospheric vocals of Pat Grossi and the heartbreaking nature of the lyrics in a way that overwhelms anything else I might be doing when I hear the first plucks of the harp to begin the song. The video, on the other hand, follows two fishermen in a stream and ends with (spoiler alert?) one of them losing his hat or dying, depending upon which fate you deem worse. It’s a beautiful song by a fellow ginger and you should give it a watch. The band is currently in the midst of a world tour that ends in Mid-March and are expected to announce headlining dates with Balam Acab soon, so be on the lookout for those as well.
